The South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) will appeal for a “smooth rolling procurement” of new wind-energy c

At the AMB fair, which opened in Stuttgart today, SKF is showcasing a new App project: The future App will be aiming at the traceability of super-precision bearings. Apart from this, SKF also wants to enhance its Traceability App with a few practical functions for everyday business life. Ultimately, it should also represent a further step towards "Industry 4.0" for SKF.

With the planned Traceability App from SKF, the most important specifications of SKF super-precision bearings will be at hand on commercially available smartphones and tablets. The user simply scans the Data Matrix Code on the future packages or bearings. This provides information on the exact marking of the bearing and when and where the bearing was manufactured. A measurement report will also be included.
The App is not only programmed to contribute to the traceability of each bearing, but also to facilitate the grouping of several bearings. This is particularly helpful if the user is looking for a matching pair of bearings.
In addition, SKF intends to make the App provide the correct installation instructions for the respective high-precision bearing - in digital form, of course. This will contribute to less "paperwork" and thus will help preserve resources. Just as time-saving, the user will also have direct access to the relevant bearing calculation tools from SKF.
In the future, the Data Matrix Code will probably even offer customers the possibility of uploading the scanned bearing data directly into their own "cloud" for further processing. This way, the customer could use the data, for example, for logistics within his own production process or for the tasks of his design department. Because of this, SKF’s software engineers are already toying with the idea of including additional bearing parameters in later App updates. In order to keep track of the increasing number of specifications, SKF will enable the user to define individual display options - depending on the customer’s information needs.
Some selected beta testers will start checking the Traceability App from SKF for its usability shortly after the fair. The App is planned to be publicly available in the first quarter of 2019.
